Evaluation areas

Each area gets a score (1-5), outlined below.

Concept. Generates original ideas appropriate to the parameters of the brief, e.g., documents multiple iterations; chooses media and forms appropriate to the context or problem; presents a considered oral or written rationale for the design decisions made.

Form. Uses formal elements such as shape, size, images, type, white space, and texture to create compositions appropriate to the concept and medium.

Technique. Demonstrates competence with chosen production techniques, e.g., edges are straight; bindings function properly; images are in the correct resolution, size, color space, and color balance; links function properly; finishes are well executed.

Presentation. Shows evidence of preparation and thought during the review process, e.g., work is displayed with careful consideration, student is on time, introduces him/herself by name, delivers a clear and concise presentation of their works and why, engages critically with faculty during Q/A.

scoring

  1. Inattentive. Major deviations in process and / or little to no effort to curb the outcome.
  2. Emerging. Minor deviations in process with an effort made to curb the outcome.
  3. Approaching Expectations. Demonstrating the capacity to meet assessment criteria but is applied inconsistently
  4. Securely Meeting Expectations. Demonstrating proficiency of assessment criteria.
  5. Exceeding expectations. Demonstrating excellence of assessment criteria; outpacing sophomore level.
