What this is for

In this sophomore review, faculty are trying to understand how you work and make. Recruiters and design employers are doing the exact same thing.

To fulfill this need, the ideal portfolio contains evidence of a thoughtful design process that meaningfully meets the world (or the design brief).

The story arc of your portfolio piece is that evidence. If you get the hang of explaining your work in this process, you can apply this skill to building a portfolio and explaining your work later.

Check out the rubric used for sophomore reviews.

For sophomore review, you’ll need three projects documented on your notion.

Developing a story

Create a new page in your notion portfolio. We’ll follow the below steps to develop a portfolio piece.

You can copy this portfolio piece template as a starting point. You don’t have to use this. Ask your instructors about how they’d document the projects they’ve assigned. Get feedback from them!! Use your process blog from your projects as a guide.

Summarize

The first step in developing a portfolio piece is developing an ultra-high level view of it. Add the following components to your page: tagline, summary, constraints / specs.

tagline

Create a tagline for your project; 2-5 words that describe it. Add this as the page’s title.

summary

Then, create a 2-3 sentence summary of what you made and why. Add this as the first text on your page.

constraints / specs

Below the summary, add the following:
